Today most of the old (non-slim) Playstation 3 systems started exhibiting the problems with connection to PSN, trophies, date and time. It is a result of a (Y2K ?) bug in PS3 firmware having problems coping with leap years. This episode of Bici Bee commemorates this momentous occasion.
Symptoms include:
- PS3 changing its date to 1/1/2000
- Trying to connect to PSN resulting in An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F) message
- Trying to launch any title supporting tropies resulting in the following message being displayed: Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game.
- Trying to update the time via Internet resulting in: The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)
- Being unable to play back some videos purchased in PlayStation Store
Official statement from Sony advises:
“We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
“As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
