AE64

Similarly to my 2005 piece entitled Demographix, AE64 is a tribute to the demoscene and to the legacy of world’s most popular microcomputer: Commodore 64.

While this video was created using the typical contemporary arsenal of tools (mainly After Effects and Cinema 4D), it conforms to most of the basic graphical limitations of the C64 such as a limited 16-color palette, low resolution, use of the overscan area etc. To maintain the spirit of the demo, I also created most of the effects using various scripts and code snippets, procedurally automating many of the tasks typically animated using keyframes.

Quba Michalski: Creative Free Agent

It is my pleasure to publicly announce that as of today I have changed my official status into Creative Free Agent and I am available for work with all interested parties. For all business inquiries you may contact me directly – the details can be found on the About page of this site.

It took me a while to figure out how to properly title myself and my services. Freelance Director? Motion Design Artist for Hire? Unassociated Writer/Art/Creative/Director? Truth be told, looking back at the past decade, it is much easier to list the things I did not do than all the roles I assumed on all the projects.

Pat Pat Robat

What was the name of that obsessive-compulsive disorder that makes you stick thousands upon thousands of little colorful triangles together?… Well, whatever it is, we got that.

Don’t ask about the big idea behind this piece – we started it and then just kept going and going. We built it in little spare moments between commercial pieces, through several all-nighters and a few weird early mornings. Now it is complete, we love it and have no idea why we made it.

iWin

iWin is a project that did not win anything whatsoever, sadly.

The piece was our submission to Photoshop “See what’s possible” competition organized by Adobe and Cut&Paste. It tells a story of Çiğdem winning the competition with her amazing design and animation skills.

DemoGraphix

DemoGraphix is imago’s tribute to the demo scene – a community of artists, coders and musicians creating amazing real time audiovisual art pieces directly through computer code. Demo scene influenced the motion graphics scene for many years and we felt that is about the time we paid our respects to it.

Unlike traditional computer animation (using keyframes and tweening), “DemoGraphix” was created from grounds up entirely through coding and mathematical formulas. We used After Effects expressions and scripting to create assets for the animation and to put them in procedural motion.

Nonsensuality

This project makes absolutely no sense – hence the name. Created without a main theme or a concept, “Nonsensuality” managed to become probably the most well-known work of imago, presented in numerous festivals, compilations and magazines throughout the globe. It also became the opening piece of Adobe Customer Reel 2005.

Snow Valentines

On February 13th, 2005 a huge snow storm hit Istanbul. It transformed this loud and chaotic city into a silent, white, postcard-like place. The traffic stopped and all business shut down. Staring at the snow falling down outside our windows, we decided to use this opportunity and to create a digital postcard for St. Valentine’s Day. We had less than 24 hours to do it and Jack Bauer was nowhere to be found.

Quick Shave

“Quick Shave” was created two years before the establishing of imago. We still, however, consider it to belong in our portfolio as a part of studio’s rich heritage.
