imago Reel 2010
Hot on the heels of yesterday’s address change, I am happy to present you with the latest reel of imago studios, closing down year 2010. Not much to talk about here – press play, sit back and enjoy.

Although it’s been over half a decade since we last designed a commercial website at imago, the original domain name imagonewmedia hasn’t changed. That is, until today.
Out with the old, in with the new. It is my pleasure to introduce all of you to a new home for our studio: helloimago.com. Pay it a visit if you haven’t yet and enjoy your stay.
New reel coming really soon. It is all cut, ready and even uploaded, but we’re still waiting for one of our new commercials to clear for air before we can put it out. Should be any day now…
This is a spot I prepared for Turkish Airlines (THY) under imago. It was not a typical job we’d take, since it did not really contain any challenging motion design elements, but instead was a pure editing and compositing project.
The ad is edited from 12 (if I recall correctly) stock scenes, where my task was to replace the original balls with red, THY ones. The new ones were not to contain any characteristics of the real sports equipment (hairy tennis ball, ridges and patches on the football, etc.).
It’s been quite silent out here at Quba HQ for a while now. That does not mean it is silent at imago, at all. I am currently finishing up two new ads, waiting for a new rig to arrive and getting ready to resume producing new tutorials for you all. It will still take a while longer before I am done with all the work, but once it is over I promised myself to put aside more time to devote to the site.
Meanwhile, while still under NDA, I thought I would share a bit of the madness with you. Here’s a wireframe mode screenshot from the scene I am working on now. 400 layers in this monstrosity, not counting complex pre-comps :)
This project was definitely one for the books. We were asked to create a 23 second ad for Şölen – a Turkish candy and chocolate company. We were given three weeks to produce a set of three videos (each for different product line) and the general guidelines regarding the current style used by the client’s ads this season.
With the storyboards approved, we contacted Onur Senturk, whom you might know from his independent pieces such as Nokta or TRI▲NGLE. Onur took care of animating the ribbons, while I did the colors, particles, light fx and all that extra shiny-sparkly stuff. Leo Burnett – agency for this project – provided us with the 3D renders of the products and the audio track.

This is a teaser TVC created for the launch of Turkish Airlines’ new international campaign Globally Yours.
The ad was initially planned as a photorealistic 3D animation, but due to the budget and time restrains, was transferred into a 2.5D platform. Still, it was by far one of the most complex projects we have worked on – not due to the animation and effects – but to the sheer amount of layers used in the compositions. The final animation is build out of nearly a thousand 2D layers animated in a 3D space.
Good news, everyone! Our piece, New York Times: The Turkish Edition is being featured in this month’s edition of Stash magazine (that’s Stash 67, April 2010). We are pleased to inform you that we are the first Turkish studio to have a commercial in this prestigious compilation.
Other studios featured in this issue include Radium, Glassworks, The Mill, Psyop, Superfad and many, many more (108 minutes of content). Check out the trailer for Stash 67 after the break.

Around two weeks ago I posted Blast from the Past: Imago Zoo – a series of wallpapers created for imago back around 2004. Today I am happy to show you three more renders from the imago promo series entitled Future Friendly.
They are slightly newer (2005 or 06 I believe) and feature cute, shiny robots I designed in Maya.
Earlier this week I presented to you the “Imago Zoo” wallpapers. Today, I dug up something even older. Here is one of the earliest digital renderings of my silly animals, created… well… very long ago.
Back in 2004, shortly after establishing imago, I have created a series of 10 promotional wallpapers with cute 3D animals.
It would be the shame to let them disappear from the face of the Internet forever, especially since the readers of Bici Bee may recognize an early prototype of out beloved webcomic character on one of them. Full gallery after the break.
