Fiat 500

I told you I was busy :)

This project started its life as a simple storyboard for a 2D piece based on photographs, delivered to us by the agency. The main brief was to show off different customization options for Fiat 500 using series of cuts. Right from the beginning I knew that the key to making the car look attractive in the commercial was in adding that one extra dimension, so we decided to upgrade the ad to a full 3D.

While the team was working on the car models, I rigged up yet another of my patented After Effects expression rigs (basically my own version of Trapcode Echospace) in order to easily create and animate the flower designs originally designed by the agency. The rest was a pretty standard editing, compositing and beautifying process, resulting in the ad you can see below.

Bici Bee #46: Chi Stole My Wacom

Today Chi needed to use the Wacom tablet, so I wasn’t able to draw the new comic. Never fear, though, Maya comes to the rescue.

Today’s Bi is presented to you in full 3D glory. As a special bonus you can download a massive print-size version here.

Glass Balloon

This video is a little test I did in Maya back in 2008, experimenting with softbody dynamics, inflation and deflation of nCloth and HDRI.

Path Worm

Another little Maya test run from 2008. This time playing with spline animation, softbody deformers and incandescent lighting. I wanted to see how would a cartoon rendering of main subject look inside a global illumination environment.

3D Abstract Moxhito and Friends

These few renders are the result of several hours of messing around with Maya, the first time I got my hands on it. Except for trying out abstract 3D, I wanted to experiment with splitting the object into fragments that move at different speeds and then re-unite.

I reused the split technique later on in imago’s Nonsensuality.

3D Tracked Golden Something

This one is a complete blast from the past.

Sometime around Winter 2004 I got my hands on some matchmoving software and did this little test (shot in my old apartment). The golden something was rendered in Maya (if I recall properly) and the texts on the wall were added in After Effects. The whole thing was shot without any lights on a simple 1CCD Sony camcorder.
