Now, that’s some recycling! Recently, with the introduction of helloimago.com we have designed some new business cards for the studio. While the front of the cards is always the same, we designed over 40 different variations of the reverse, using the letter “o” from our logo and Cigdem’s paintings to create a series of colorful, abstract visuals.

As usual, we used Moo.com to do the prints. Unfortunately we were not aware that they have recently changed they paper stock and ended up with a large box full of cards we did not want to use. (Just to make things clear, we ordered another batch, printed on another paper and these turned out fantastic!)

While the prints were useless as business cards, it would be the shame to simply throw them away – using a spray mount, some cardboard and an old IKEA frame I decided to put them together as a collage. You can see the result after the break.

I apologize for a poor quality of photographs – I did not have time to set up the lights properly and shot it from a simple Coolpix pocket camera right off the wall :)

I found this one on a Turkish t-shirt site geyikadam.com. It is so spot-on, that I decided to translate it into English and share with you all.

If you have ever worked on a commercial design project, you should get a good laugh out of it.

I usually like to build my compositions vertically, placing most of the data in a single timeline. It works most of the time, although sometimes results in skyscraper monstrosities like the nearly 1000 layer project I talked about a while back.

The ad I am working on right now required a different approach. I had to create pre-comps of pre-comps of pre-comps of some more pre-comps, constantly burying and digging up various elements. A timeline screenshot would not do it much justice, so I decided to share with you the flowchart view of the project.

If everything goes according to the production schedule, I will be sharing the result with you in about a week or so.

By the way, I know the “Yo dawg” Xzibit meme is old news, but regardless, here’s the best one I heard so far:

Yo dawg, I heard yo and yo dawg like yo-yo’s, so I put yo dawg in a yo-yo, so yo can yo-yo yo dawg while yo dawg yo-yo’s.

And thus concludes the Doodles&Noodles bonanza started on February 17th with this post. For the past three months you were presented a new sketch every other day. Right now I run out of scans so we end these regular updates until I get my crap together and draw something new.

If you expected something special, fireworks, maybe a musical performance – sorry to disappoint. Just a guy with big hair waving his hand and trying to stop something.

By the way, I love WordPress’ delayed posting (post scheduling) option. The entire bonanza was in fact posted on the first day and simply scheduled to reveal over the course of three months. It is 17th of February 2010 when I am writing this post. No idea what will QubaHQ look like in May!

A friend of mine runs a great bar in Istanbul, where we like to hang out with our friends and business associates. Every Wednesday they have a Sushi Night – serving pretty much the best Japanese food in town.

Below are two e-mail invite banners I made for the most recent Sushi Nights. In the first one I used SplatterType to generate an abstract sushi graphic. In the second – I used mad illustration skills of Cigdem to generate the happy human :)
