Little Things with Long Domains

It's safe to say 2013 had a lot of Olivari in it. From the slow motion series, through all the Bowerbirds videos, adventures of Oli; we have created tons of content for the brand's Year of Little campaign. One of the series I previously did not publicize on QubaHQ was Little Things with Long Domains - a series of 12 infinite loops about some of the small joys of life.

Bowerbirds: October

This month's meditative, repeating and almost zen-like song called for something slower and relaxing. Paint drying and grass growing felt too cliche, so we settled on having a mountain range erect over the course of the song. This was also the first Bowerbirds clip where I decided to take my hands off the keyboard and let my very talented team do some work.

VideoBits: _round

QubaHQ VideoBits can be most easily explained as doodling. Some people doodle by drawing with pen or pencil on a piece of paper. I use my motion design tools.

VideoBits: _convo

_convo is a result of me continuing to mess around with my Chromatic Aberration Kit. It's one of these things that simply sort of happened. Not quite large to make a big piece out of them, but cool enough not to discard.

Bowerbirds: September

This is the very last Bowerbirds video I will be doing myself. While we still have a few more to go, they will be created and animated by the very talented members of my team as opposed to my 100% hands-on approach I cultivated so far.

Bowerbirds: August

Fireflies in an early evening.... It's probably no surprise that this video was vastly inspired by amazing photography of Yume Cyan. We combined simulated particle fireflies created with custom aperture sprites with a footage of the forrest and then revealed it with the mattes shot specifically for this project (as usual).

Bowerbirds: July

For the July Bowerbirds clip, I decided to try something new. I created a realistic model of the Moon, based on the elevation maps gathered by NASA and animated the illumination phases as the light (the Sun) traveled around in. Having been recently turned onto the Mystery Science Theater 3000 by Conor, I then stylized it to look and feel like a stop motion project from the early days of Sci-Fi.

Google: Nexus Playground

For the 2012 launch of the new Nexus family of devices, we imagined a playful world of Google services interacting around a stack of devices. Following the success of the first Nexus Playground video, we were then asked to create a series of sequels, each talking about a particular type of experience Nexus can provide to its users. The films below were originally published inside rich media banners, as a part of Google's 2012/2013 Nexus: The Playground is Open campaign.

Everything Tastes Better in Slow Motion (part 2)

Here is part two of our year-long project of liquid experimentation (read: splashing oil around the studio). Can you guess what did we actually shoot to achieve these visuals? Drop me a comment below if you think so :)

Bowerbirds: May

It's a new month (well, almost the end of it) and a new Bowerbirds song time. This time I have used some of the techniques quite familiar to the followers of my tutorial series. The overarching principle remains the same - a video loop revealed by mixing Cyan, Magenta and Yellow inks. It's quite a jump from the April one and we're already brewing some ideas for June :)
